ISPTEC AWARDS CERTIFICATES TO OUTSTANDING LECTURERS AND STUDENTS
The Performance Recognition Ceremony for the 2016 academic year was held on the afternoon of May 5th.
For the first time, besides the teaching dimension, the criteria for outstanding performance also included the Scientific Research, Extension and University Management dimensions. One of the highlights of the event came about as the laureates took the stage for certificates. This sparked a wave of euphoria across the room.
It should be noted that the number of outstanding students with regards the teaching dimension stood at approximately 3 % of the total number of students who attended the 2016 academic year.
The main auditorium was full to capacity and quite lively.
3rd EDITION OF THE INTERNAL WEEK FOR THE PREVENTION OF OCCUPATIONAL INJURIES – SIPAT 2017
From the 19th to the 21st of April 2017, ISPTEC held the 3rd edition of the Internal Week for the Prevention of Occupational Injuries, as part of the celebrations of the 28th of April, "World Day of Health and Safety at Work".
The opening of the activities was chaired by the ISPTEC Managing Director Dr. Baltazar Miguel. The ISPTEC Academic Community, namely lab technicians and administrative staff, participated massively in the event.
The activity was mainly designed to expand safety culture and practices to all the academic community, thus, preserving human life and the environment.
Three lectures were delivered in the edition with the following subjects:
- "Environmental Impact resulting from the consumption of Electric Power" (Delivered by Professor Eduardo San Martin of the Vocational Laboratories).
- "Depression" (Delivered by Doctor Bernardino António, an employee of Clínica Girassol)
- "The National Legislation on Occupational Safety" (Delivered by Ms. Hélia Piedade, an HSE officer at Academia Sonangol)
Those present in the 3rd edition of the ISPTEC's Internal Week for the Prevention of Occupational Injuries (SIPAT) welcomed the knowledge gained during the talks and were committed to acting as multipliers of what was discussed.
5th NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
Under the motto "The Challenges of Scientific Research and ICT", the 5th National Conference on Science and Technology was held from 26 to 28 April at the Talatona Convention Center (CCTA) in Luanda, a joint initiative of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology.
The event was designed for managers, the scientific community, inventors, specialists, professionals and students with interest in the matter, and was conducted by both national and foreign speakers, divided into 6 panels. It aimed to present and discuss scientific research results, share and exchange experiences on the contribution of science, technology and innovation in solving social problems and promoting sustainable development.
ISPTEC participated in Panel II entitled "Social Sciences, Society and Economics", with professors Alexandre Ernesto and Akihito de Boa Esperança, respectively presenting the themes "Causality between public expenditure and revenues in Angola: a time-varying approach" and "Socioeconomic impact of the constructions pathology, on the populations of Luanda".
Also participating in the event was Professor Eduardo San Martin, who made a presentation on "The development and characterization of a wind system for pumping water", resulting from a knowledge transfer piece of work to the community.
STOCKS AND SHARES MARKET IN THE FINANCIAL SYSTEM
As part of the cycle of lectures for educational institutions, the Capital Markets Commission (CMC) held a lecture on "The Stocks and Shares Market in the Financial System" on April 19th at ISPTEC.
The delegation was received by Professor Dr. Euclides Luís, the Scientific and Extension Director of ISPTEC and is part of the cycle of lectures scheduled for the current year.
The lecture was designed for the Economics and Management students and was delivered by Dr. Elsa Fonseca, a CMC board member, focusing on the basic concepts of the financial system, investment, savings, segment of the stocks and shares markets, as well as the direct relationship of the regulatory and supervisory body. The audience participated actively.
In the end, the participants expressed their satisfaction with the initiative, considering the relevance of the information related to the topics discussed, such as the mechanism of stocks and shares distribution, in order to generate liquidity to the securities issued by the companies and enable its capitalization process.
ISPTEC AWARDS DIPLOMAS TO 98 GRADUATES
On April 28th at 2 o’clock in the afternoon, ‘Instituto Superior Politécnico de Tecnologias e Ciências’ (ISPTEC) organized its 2nd Graduation Ceremony in the main auditorium awarding diplomas to 98 newly graduates from the Engineering and Applied Social Sciences Departments.
Those placed at the Head table in the ceremony included Her Excellency the Secretary of State in charge of Higher Education for Innovation Dr. Maria Augusta da Silva Martins, representing the Minister of Higher Education; His Excellency the Executive Director of Sonangol, PLC, Dr. César Paxi, representing the Promoter, and the Members of the Board of Directors.
In addition to the 2016 ceremony, diplomas were awarded to the first graduates of the Engineering courses upon completion of 5-year degree programs in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Production Engineering, Civil Engineering and Chemical Engineering.
In his closing speech, the Managing Director praised the fact that a considerable number of students are employed, thanks to the recognition of the work carried out at Institutional level, which emphasizes dedication, merit and professionalism as decisive factors for the achievement Objectives with an emphasis on excellence.
The activity took place from 2 to 5 o’clock in the afternoon according to plan in an atmosphere of great joy and excitement among students, their guardians and professors.
ENI GIVES A TALK AT ISPTEC
Last Tuesday (April 11th), a delegation of ENI employees from its HR Department, gave a lecture to the final-year students of the Engineering and Technologies Department at the Instituto Superior Politécnico de Tecnologias e Ciências (ISPTEC). The delegation was welcomed by ISPTEC´s Engineering and Technologies Department Head, Professor José Gaspar.
The talk aimed to give an overview of ENI´s vision, mission and values as well as the Recruitment Program which is designed for the final-year students of engineering and technologies. On the occasion, ENI representatives presented the requirements and profile expected of each candidate for the new talents recruitment program.
ENI is a multinational Italian oil company, present in 70 countries with over 10 thousand employees and operating in Angola since 1980. The company was founded by the Italian government in order to promote and develop a national energetic strategy.
MEETING WITH 1 st YEAR STUDENTS
A seminar with theme “I am ISPTEC” was held in the ISPTEC auditorium on April 1st 2017 for the newly admitted students.
This seminar was designed to help integrate the new students by presenting the Academic Regulations Handbook, the ISPTEC Student Profile and promoting awareness in the preservation of the Institution's Campus facilities.
ISPTEC´s Academic Director Professor Dr. Chivanga Barros, began the seminar at 9:00 a.m. focusing on what is expected of a new university student and more particularly, what is expected of an ISPTEC student. The Academic Registrar, Mrs. Alda Brás, then followed with clarifications about the Academic Regulations and answering student’s questions.
In closing, the head of the Department of Social Action, alerted the students about preserving the Campus facilities while detailing what are the expected behavior and attitudes of ISPTEC students.
The seminar was well received as it was an opportunity to clarify some issues and get acquainted with the rules and regulations of how to lead a new university campus life as an ISPTEC student.
ISPTEC PARTICIPATES IN THE XII NATIONAL CONGRESS OF EXCELLENCE IN THE MANAGEMENT & III

ISPTEC was represented by Professor Lilhan Barbosa of the Applied Social Sciences Department, who presented the work entitled "Participatory Construction of Sustainability Indicators as a Support for Decision Making for Quality of Life in Communities in Luanda (Angola): Case Study in Kilamba Urban Center".

1200 scientific articles were submitted to the Congress and 600 scientific-technological papers were approved, of which 300 were presented in a Technical Session and as many again in Posters. 1400 participants attended the event: lecturers and panelists, with guests from teaching and research institutions and distinguished companies (national and international).
The event and the interaction of the participants contributed to continued development of management technologies based on the principles of sustainable development, Agenda 21, Millennium Development Goals, SA 8000, ISO 26000, among other legal and scientific milestones geared toward eco-efficiency, social and environmental responsibility in public, private and service sector organizations.
ISPTEC SECOND SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL DAYS 2016
The second Scientific and Technological Days of Instituto Superior Politécnico de Tecnologias e Ciências - ISPTEC, took place from 19th to 22nd October 2016 under the motto: "Scientific Research, Technological Development and Innovation in Angola: A Challenge for Higher Education Institutions."
For three days the lecturers, distributed in two panels, addressed themes on Scientific Research in "Engineering and Technologies" and "Social Sciences".
The solemn opening ceremony of the Second Days was held last October 19th, 2016, and was chaired by His Excellency Secretary of State for Higher Education to Supervision Doctor António Miguel André who, at the time, stressed the importance of such activities within the Students and researchers’ community.
On that occasion, Doctor Armando Valente delivered the opening lecture on the development of scientific research in Angola, with particular emphasis on those developed in higher education institutions.
ISPTEC SENIOR MANAGEMENT MEETS WITH A DELEGATION FROM THE UNIIVERSITY OF ABERDEEN
The Senior Management of Instituto Superior Politécnico de Tecnologias e Ciências – ISPTEC met with a delegation from the University of Aberdeen Business School on 28th September 2016 to discuss several aspects associated with the daily dynamics of both institutions.
ISPTEC Principal, Dr. Baltazar Miguel presented the historical milestones of the institution from its establishment to the opening of the academic year in 2012, and also referred to the various ongoing programs and projects in the institution, with an emphasis on the Master’s Degree and PhD Program for the faculty, the Student Mobility Program and the project to launch new courses in the next cycle.
The delegation from the University of Aberdeen Business School, headed by Dr. Evan Phimister, responsible for the Department of Economics, expressed the availability of the area he is in charge of in identifying the potential areas of common interest and establish a cooperation agreement with ISPTEC, including Master’s degree programs for the faculty.
In the end, the delegation toured the Vocational Laboratories extensively and stressed the efforts made by the promoter in creating such conditions. The members of the delegation were also pleased about the quality of the facilities and good references gathered from ISPTEC students.
